Art and fashion have always been a natural pair, and it could not have been more apparent at last Saturday's Party Arty, the annual fundraiser hosted by Young Friends of Art benefiting the Nelson- Atkins Museum of Art. Amidst the fashionable crowd perusing pieces of art in the Bloch Building, we were busy perusing certain other pieces- the pieces of clothing!
And just as art is all about inspiration, so is fashion... and we were certainly inspired by many of the outfits we encountered. And with the hopes of inspiring you, we have provided three of our favorite looks from the night and our reinterpretations of them.
(French Connection black mini, Fumblin’ Foe blue ruffle top , flower ring, Chinese Laundry shoes, all from Hemline)
We loved the combination of blue and black on this lovely lady’s outfit. The high-waisted skirt provides a sense of sophistication against the plunging neckline, creating an elegant yet sassy overall ensemble. And we adored the way she had fun with her jewelry- adding a flirtatious flower ring.
For our reinterpretation, we switched the juxtaposition of elegance and sass by pairing a short black mini-skirt from French Connection with a more modest blue ruffle top from Fumblin’ Foe. And we maintained her youthful sense of accessorizing by keeping the flower ring just the way it was.
And while any black pump is do-able in this situation, we particularly liked the black suede one by Chinese Laundry; it embodies everything about this ensemble- classic yet daring.
(KLD teal print dress, BC Footwear black booties, jeweled black earrings)
While sometimes we are simply inspired by others’ outfits, other times we have to have pretty much the exact look. This was the case with this delightful dame’s get-up. We went ga-ga for the way she took a rather punk-esque dress and made it completely feminine with her lady-like jewelry and au-natural hair.
And while unfortunately our hair isn’t that shiny, we were able to pull some other things together to get the rest of the look pretty similar. We were lucky enough to have the same KLD teal print dress already hanging on our racks, but instead of pairing it with a classic heel, we decided to take the hardcore-punk step a bit farther and added a black BC Footwear bootie.
However, we couldn’t completely abandon our inner girly-girl, so we added a pair jeweled earrings reminiscent of the lovely bracelet on our inspiration's wrist.
(Yoanna Baraschi zipper blazer, Gestuz grey tank top, Leona neon skirt, Chinese Laundry shoes, silver drop necklace all from Hemline, Deuxlux diamond clutch)
Possibly our favorite look of the evening, this look embodies everything Hemline fashion strives for- refinement, eclecticism, and fun! We love how this tall drink of water paired a more traditional blazer and tank top with an eye-catching skirt that transformed what could-have-been a blah ensemble and made it completely drool-worthy!
Our version kept the grey tank top and blazer courtesy of Gestuz and Yonanna Baraschi, respectively, but we went in a slightly different direction with the skirt. For our look, we went with this neon bow skirt by Leona. We liked that the Leona skirt has a traditional cut, but that the bow adds a certain something- the same certain something the scalloped layers on our girl’s skirt add?!
We also loved her accessories and added our own silver drop necklace and Deuxlux diamond clutch to complete the looks. The silver-tones in the blazer, tank top, necklace, and clutch create a pulled-together look.
