Brand Profile: Free People
Free People is one of Hemline's go-to brands. We love their slightly kitschy, slightly bohemian, but all-too-cool look. PLUS, it's the perfect brand for summer. We always post Free People pieces on our blog and have a plethora of pieces in store, so now is your chance to learn about the brand we covet SO much! So we're happy to bring you, directly from the Free People website, a little bio...
"Back in the 1970's, a young man named Dick Hayne planted a seed in the maze of streets and trees that make up West Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He opened a store and called it Free People. Free People nurtured the young people who lived there and shopped there, who looked for a little of their own freedom in the clothes they wore.
As Dick's store grew from one to two, the name was changed from Free People to Urban Outfitters.
In time, his wife Meg came on to tend Urban's private label division, which supported product exclusive to Urban Outfitters. Demand was almost immediate and to meet this overwhelming need, she and Dick decided to create a wholesale line. It was very well-received, so much so that Dick separated the businesses. For a while, the wholesale line took on many personalities: Bulldog, Ecote, Cooperative, Anthropologie, and then in 1984 a new life was breathed into the name Free People. And that's us.
During 2001, we realized that it was really Free People that invoked some of our favorite images, those of femininity, courage, and spirit. It was time to get back to our roots.
Free People shed its junior image and evolved into a more mature, contemporary brand. This allowed twenty-something women to appreciate the line of clothing that catered to their intelligence, creativity and individuality, while keeping with its great quality and affordability.
And that's just who we wanted to reach: a 26-year-old girl, smart, creative, confident and comfortable in all aspects of her being, free and adventurous, sweet to tough to tomboy to romantic. A girl who likes to keep busy and push life to its limits, with traveling and hanging out and everything in between. Who loves Donovan as much as she loves The Dears, and can't resist petting any dog that passes her by on the street.
Today we draw, design, sew and buy for her. We offer her countless options within our own Free People collection, so that even if she takes her best pal shopping, they won't come out looking at all alike. And if she wants her colors and patterns all mixed up, that's even better, picking through our sweaters, knits and skirts. And our design team is expecting to offer even greater variety in our intimates and accessories business."

Hemline Girl's Pick of the Week!
So, it is officially hotter than hot in Kansas City, and we don't know about you, but all we seem to want to wear is a pair of skivvies and an oversized t-shirt while we lay poolside drinking lemonade. Alas, it's probably too hot to even do that, AND we have to go to work where they definitely don't let us wear our previously mentioned desired apparel. So, Tara thought this might be the perfect alternative. A linen skirt and cotton tank top... the closest you can get to looking presentable without feeling like you're going to pass out because you're wearing so much clothes.
But this isn't just any skirt and top. This is THE skirt and top. The skirt is a perfect khaki color with flecks of gray, orange, and a warm yellow that make it perfect not only for summer, but an easy piece to transition into the fall. The Greylin top is a fabulous update on the basic tank top. The ruffled neckline and sharp color make this piece fun, sexy way to still look put together, but not sloppy. Pair with a little pair of sandals, a side braid, and you're good to go!

What to Wear: Daytime Garden Wedding
The number one predicament Hemline shoppers have??? "I have a wedding to go to and have nothing to wear!" Well, us here at the Hemline blog want to make it so that when you come into the store, you know exactly what you're looking for. No more confusion about what's appropriate, what's not... what's too showy and what's just boring. Over the next couple of weeks, we're going to feature a series of dresses and ensembles that are perfect for the laundry list of weddings you have to go to this summer.
The first one up is the ever-present garden wedding. Customers bemoan the fact that they have to not only stand out in the heat but are also expected to be dressed to the nines. To this problemo, we offer this adorable Gracia bird dress and to-die-for Seychelles wedges. The lightweight material makes this dress ultra-breathable and insures you won't steal the bride's spotlight by passing out mid-ceremony. The color and print of the dress are a clever combatant to any sweat that decides to show itself and the ruffled neckline adds a bit of flair.
And on to those SHOOOOOOES! The shoes alone are reason enough to attend the weddings. The golds and browns match perfectly with the rspective colors of the dress and stacked wedge will enable you to dance with the groomsmen until the wee hours of the morning!
And even if this isn't exactly your style, we hope this points you in the right direction. And if it doesn't? That's just one more reason to come visit Hemline today in the hopes of finding the perfect dress for the big day!

Designer Profile: Alexia Admor
Every now and then, we like to bring you a little more information about some of the designers we carry. We not only want you to love our clothes, we want you to understand where they came from so you can appreciate them even more! Today's featured designer is Alexia Admor- the go-to gal for fun, flirty dresses that create the perfect ensembles for prom or cocktail evening! Hope you enjoy learning more about this brand that Hemline is proud to carry!
"Sexy, sweet, girly, fun... Wearing a brand that collectively embodies each of these feminine expressions may seem like a daunting task. However, that is just perception. The hallmark of Alexia Admor, a contemporary women’s dress line based in NYC, is defying the notion that sweet and sexy can not coexist. In the contemporary women’s market, striking this delicate balance is evidently uncommon. In spite of this, Alexia Admor fuses expressions of the sweet, the sexy, the girly, and the fun into one cohesive message: that the girl with a vibrant social agenda can have a wardrobe to match her attitude and lifestyle.
Alexia Admor was founded in 1989 and is situated in the heart of Manhattan’s fashion district. Over the past 20 years, we have done business with many of the better specialty and department stores throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, Japan, the Middle East, and Puerto Rico." -- courtesy of alexiaadmor.com

Hemline Girl's Pick of the Week!
This bohemian tunic was an easy pick for Emily; the flowy material, the snazzy print, and too-hot for summer colors make this piece an essential for your closet! The longer length and loose fit makes it great for women of all shapes and sizes! Super tall? Wear this piece as a top with skinny jeans. A bit on the tiny size? Pair with a cute belt and gladiator sandles to make this top into a mini-dress!

You Make Us Want to Change...
Usually when we get ready in the morning, we pick out our outfits first. Then we pick out the shoes, make-up, etc. The item that is usually the last to be considered is the jewelry. While there is nothing inherently wrong with this routine, we realized how mundane it had become when we saw these little Kenze Panne baubles come into the store! The turquoise! The purple! The stones! The gems! It's love...
What if we started getting ready in the morning from the accessories up? These earrings inspired a plethora of mix-and-match ideas that prompted us to question our morning routine. We loved this teal Leona bow dress and this simple purple Aaron Ashe shift dress as the perfect compliment to these look-at-me earrings! We're going to start getting ready from the ears down from now on!
But don't think you just have to dress up with earrings like this! Throw them on with a t-shirt and jeans to add some extra elegance to laid back look.

For that reason, we've compiled a list of our summer essentials! These four items should be ABSOLUTE staples in every woman's closet these next few months.
1. the Balm Hot Mama! shadow/blush all-in-one. A perfectly pinkish red, this all-in-one looks great on all sorts of skin tones! Prefer a bronzed look as opposed to a lovely rosey one? That's great too! We have a bronze version in-store, too!
2. Restricted off-white petal flats. Need something with more coverage than a flip-flop but still exudes summer? This little white shoe is perfect for the office, for a day of walking on the Plaza, or simply paired with a little white dress such as...
3. French Connection tribal print dress. We have all heard about the white-hot trend of the little white dress for the summer, and we think this is the epitome of that look! Ultra-light linen make this dress super breathable but the shape and color detailing keep the dress from becoming too casual. This dress is perfect for both a garden wedding and picnic in the park!
4. Kenze Panne turquoise necklace. We told you a few days ago we got tons of goodies in from the jewelry line, and this is one of our favorites! The easy gold chain paired with the eye-catching stone charm make this necklace the perfect companion for everything from a little black (or white) dress to a t-shirt and jeans!
