Recipes!

With the Holidays upon us, we wanted to share a few recipes with everyone that we absolutely love. These three sweet concoctions will have you weak in the knees this holiday season, and one of them won't even be hard on your waist line! Just one though. It's the Holidays, after all. Enjoy!

2 Minute Chocolate and Salted Caramel Mug Cake
This recipe takes 5 minutes tops to make from start to finish, and just 2 minutes to actually cook. And it's a single serving - so not to tempt you with the goodness with an entire pan of leftovers! Oh and if you can't find salted caramels, you can sprinkle fleur de sel salt into the mixture. Gotta love that salty/sweet combo!

What You'll Need: (Makes 1 mug cake)
4 tablespoons all purpose flour
4 tablespoons sugar
3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 egg- beaten
3 tablespoons skim milk
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
2 salted caramels

What to do:
1. In a small bowl add: flour, sugar, cocoa, baking powder, salt, egg, milk and vegetable oil. Mix to combine.
2. Pour mixture into a regular sized coffee mug. Drop caramels into center of mixture one at a time.
3. Microwave on high for one minute 30 seconds. If needed (if cake batter is still gooey), microwave on high for up to an additional 30 seconds.

Okay so this next one really isn't a recipe, per se, but we think it's adorable. And for those with little ones at home, can you imagine how much they would love this?

Elf Donuts

These tiny little donuts aren't really donuts at all- they are cheerios that have been dipped in various things to look like tiny donuts. Elf donuts if you will! Let your little ones leave these out along with the cookies for Santa and the carrots for the reindeer. After all, the elves work hard too!

What you'll need:
Cheerios
Chocolate Chips
Sprinkles
Cinnamon
Sugar
Powdered Sugar

What to do:
For chocolate sprinkle donuts, melt a small batch of chocolate chips in the microwave. Dip one side of the Cheerio in the chocolate, then into the sprinkles. So cute!
For the powdered version, simply dip a Cheerio into powdered sugar. This works better if you use Honey Nut Cheerios - they are a little stickier and hold onto the powdered sugar better!
And for the Cinnamon Sugar version, just dip the Cheerio in a mixture of cinnamon and sugar! Again, honey nut works better for a stickier surface!

Last but not least, we have a healthy sweet alternative to all the other indulgences you'll be faced with in the upcoming weeks. This one is so good, and totally satisfies any sweet tooth, with none of the guilt!

Yogurt Dipped Strawberries

What you'll need:
Strawberries
Yogurt of your choice (we like plain Greek yogurt, for health sake and the texture is easier to work with)
Waxed Paper

What you do:
Take the stems off the strawberries.
Dip them into the yogurt, and put them directly onto a cookie sheet covered in waxed paper.
Put in freezer for about an hour.

The perfect healthy treat!

The Balm - Nude 'Tude

You might be familiar with The Balm, one of our favorite brands of makeup here at Hemline. We love everything about it: the product itself is great, from the lip balms to eyeshadows and bronzers, the names of the products are so catchy ("Stania"c Lip Stain, "Meet Matte" Eye Palette) and the packaging is so cute - and functional! The eye palettes come with a good sized mirror and eyeshadow brush!

The newest member to The Balm family is their new eye palette, Nude 'Tude. You probably guessed from the name, but this palette is filled with all things nude. We love the subtle and sexy vibe it gives to your peepers. And with names like "Soultry" and "Sassy", how could you not feel, well, soultry and sassy?!
This amazing little palette is only $36 - with 12 colors, a cute compact and a brush, we think that's a steal!

Sara Happ

We'd like to introduce you to our new best friend, Sara Happ. No, we haven't technically met the woman, but once you try her products, she will be your best friend too!
She started out making lip products in her kitchen because "the world didn't need another lip balm. It needed the perfect one".
We couldn't agree more. Hemline is happy to now carry a few of our favorite Sara products! The lip scrub leaves your lips feeling so silky smooth, and a perfect foundation for your holiday red lips. Oh and the smell is AMAZING. You'll have to stop yourself from wanting to eat it. After you prep your lips with the scrub, spread on a little "lip slip"- it really is the perfect lip balm.
Buy a few for gifts this year - the recipients will not be disappointed!
Oh and they both retail for $24!

Colored Denim

We are loving colored denim right now! It's not the first time the trend has come into play, but we love it so much this time around! It's not obnoxious - the colors are vibrant, yet sophisticated. And the styles are super sexy!
Here are a few we have in store that we love right now. So cute!

Statement Necklaces

If the weather in your city is anything like the weather in the Hemline cities, you are faced with the decision every day of what to wear. And not just your normal "what should I wear" days, we're talking should I wear a sweater? Or shorts? It's so unpredictable this time of year!
Who wants to shop for a winter coat when it's 65 degrees outside? And who wants to spend money on more warm weather duds when the temperatures are sure to plummet? We've got something you can spend your hard earned cash on(and not a lot of it!) all year round.
Accessories. In particular, statement necklaces. We've gathered some of our favorites from the Hemline floor to show you now. The best part? They range in price from $20 - $30! They would be great gift items for the Holidays, too!

We have to spit out another shameless promotion for Kansas City's uber big fashion event on November 3rd!
Terra Rossa, which translates to "red Earth" is going to be not only a fashion show, but a feast for your senses. Take part in food from local KC restaurants, like Blanc Burgers and Bottles, Fud, Westside Local and Lydia's, and sip our signature Bacardi cocktail. Watch Quixotic perform on stage with a trapeze and amazing net act, then watch the hottest clothes in KC strut down the runway. Haven't had enough yet? Then hang around right after the runway show to have a mini concert by recording artist Andy Grammer! Did we mention all of this is to benefit the Children's Miracle Network? Because it is.
You can purchase tickets through ticketmaster or come in to Hemline and grab them - $15 for general admission ($20 if you buy them at the door the night of the show) or $60 for the VIP experience. Doors open at 6:30, VIP private party starts at 7:00, performances start at 8:45, and the runway show will start around 9:00. Celebrity Spotlight: Mila Kunis

Mila Kunis is constantly popping up on our radar for her style sense, on and off the red carpet. She does the glam thing so very well when she needs to, but can dress it down in cut offs and sandals in an instant. She has such an appeal to men and women, and we must say that we love her! Take a look at some of our favorite Mila looks - she's just cool.

Great Finds Under $100!

This topic is one of our favorites to blog about. While we love our designer labels, we also love a deal! Or giving deals in this case. The fact that by bringing less expensive items into the store makes Hemline attainable to everyone makes us more than happy. You would never be able to tell just by looking at these items that they aren't a designer label! We scour the country in search of lines like these, and hand pick the best pieces - the "Hemline worthy" pieces if you will!
Here are a few of the many things we have in store right now that are under $100. But you have to hurry and get in here - these pieces never last long!

2. Aryn K. $95
3. $62
4. Blue Bird $51
5. Blue Bird $75

Paris Fashion Week and Rachel Zoe

What is better than watching designer collections strut down the runway at Fashion Week? Well maybe it's not better, but in our opinion it's just as fun - seeing what the celebs are wearing to watch those shows!
We got a look at one of our favorites, Rachel Zoe during her visit to Paris Fashion Week. She just knows what she's doing! She is so good at keeping things realistic and wearable while at the same time taking regular pieces and making them amazing. We love her style, from head to toe - and that was no exception while in Paris!
Here are a few of our favs!

From left to right:
1. Looking fab with her hubby, Roger, at Stella McCartney
2. Amazing white dress at Christian Dior

What are your thoughts about Rachel Zoe? Does she live up to her hype in your opinion? Who are your favorite style icons?

Chaser Tees

Hemline is carrying Chaser Tees!

"Chaser was founded in 1988 as an independent t-shirt line that embodied the cutting-edge style of the burgeoning punk rock punk rock scene in Los Angeles. Combining art, music and fashion, chaser has established itself as a unique brand within an increasingly crowded marketplace. More than 20 years later, music is still the soul of the label, but chaser has moved far beyond t-shirts, incorporating revolutionary fabrications, washes, printing processes and design driven-styles."

These shirts are so comfortable - they look and feel like a true vintage find. These are a few of our favorite brands and musicians from Chaser!
Chaser Tees run anywhere from $50 - $65

Terra Rossa - A Fall Fashion Event

Hemline Kansas City is gearing up for their annual fashion show and tickets are now officially ON SALE! Go to ticketmaster.com and get them while they last!

Clay [kley] - noun - Earth, especially  regarded as the material from which the human body was formed.
the human body, especially as distinguished from the spirit or soul; the flesh.

The name of this years show is "Terra Rossa" - we were inspired by the amazing colors in the store this Fall, particularly all the reds and deep oranges. Terra Rossa translates to "Red Earth", which fits our bohemian quality just perfectly.
This years event is a collaboration of all the "bests" in Kansas City. Partners include: Wheat Photography, Quixotic, Ink Magazine, and Mix 93.3, and all the proceeds go to our favorite charity, Children's Miracle Network! The event is at The Midland Theater on November 3. Doors open at 6:30, where the Quixotic dancers will be setting the mood while you eat and drink from the best restaurants in KC. Once inside the theatre you will get to see a performance by Quixotic, then the runway show will begin! After the runway show you will get an up close and personal concert from recording artist Andy Grammer! Then follow us next door to the Indie where DJ's No Mathematics will be spinning the night away.

Two ticket prices are available, general admission and VIP. VIP guests will get a private pre-party in the private bar area at the top of the Midland while listening to a local KC favorite band, The Late Night Callers, and of course sipping cocktails and taking part in all the amazing food. You'll be taken down to the theatre just in time to see a performance by Quixotic, and to get your perfectly situated seat along the runway, where your VIP swag bag will be waiting! Want to do general admission? You will have an amazing night, take part in food and drinks, watch Quixotic performances, and of course have a perfect view of the runway show and mini concert from Andy Grammer!

We are so excited to be doing this again, and we think this is going to be the best show yet. Go to ticketmaster.com right now and buy your tickets!
More info on the show is available at our event website, hemlineterrarossa.wordpress.com

Starbucks Goes Designer

Starbucks is turning 40! And in celebration, they have teamed up designers Alexander Wang, Sophie Theallet and Billy Reid to make a line of t-shirts inspired by the Starbucks brand.

Sophie Theallet- "I was inspired by the global community, and all the connections involved around a cup of Starbucks coffee," she says of her tee.

Alexander Wang- "When Starbucks and the CVFF approached us with this project, the first thing we thought of was what everyone tries to avoid - spilled coffee on a t-shirt. This turned into the design, hoping people would have fun with it." Oh and his t-shirt is unisex!

Billy Reid- "We were inspired by the iconic images and American success story of Starbucks over the past 40 years. So 1971 stood out to us as an important number we wanted to implement in design, along with the iconic Siren and beautiful signature wallpaper prints."
Billy Reid womens
Mens - "We wanted a certain broken-in quality that looks great worn inside out, is a bit antiquated in spirit and ready for wear immediately." - Billy Reid

You can purchase a Starbucks designer tee at Starbucks.com or Nordstrom for $85.00

Fashion Week

New York Fashion Week is in full swing, and if you're anything like us, you've been stalking the website waiting for the next show to hit.
Fashion week isn't over just yet, but we wanted to comment on a few of the trends we are seeing on just about every runway. The first thing we noticed? Orange! Not citrus orange, not soft orange, but a red orange. It's in almost every collection, and it's being paired with white, navy and turquoise. It's so fresh and bright, and we are definitely smitten!

The next thing we've seen a lot of so far is color blocking. It's big for Fall too, but it's obviously darker right now. We love the color combinations used to color block in the Spring - they are so fresh and pretty. We love the peach tones with turquoise and white, and the bold mustard tone yellow.

We are impatiently waiting for the new shows to hit the website over these next few days, and we will be back with some more of our favorite runway looks later this week. Stay tuned!

Snuggle Up

The weather this week has us all inspired to bust out the boots and sweaters. Some of us have even made a pact that, no matter how hot it gets outside, we will refuse to wear sandals - we are so ready for Fall around here, and we are going to wear the amazing clothes on our racks!

We pulled some of our favorite jackets and sweaters and put them in one post. Believe us, there are SO many more than what's here, but these are just a few that we are crushing on at the moment. Oh Fall, how we love thee!

Don't forget to log onto our website at www.shophemline.com and receive free shipping on every order!

Skinny Vs. Flare - The Great Debate

Remember the days before skinny jeans were the norm? We remember when they started showing up on celebs and the everyday public being scared to wear them. A few years later, that's all we had in our closets!
So now that this trend of ultra flare, bell bottoms and straight up wide legs is hitting us, what will we do? Stay true to our "skinny" roots? Or ditch them for the throw back look of bell bottoms?
We say why choose! Skinny jeans (or pants, or leggings) absolutely still have a place in your closets this Fall and Winter, so don't go throwing them out. Along the skinny jeans line this Fall we are also loving skinny leather pants.
Here are a few of our favorites in our stores right now. And we won't be choosing between them - we plan on rocking each and every one of them!

Going Crazy With Color!

This past year we have seen some major trends in the hair department. Feather extensions anyone? We are fast moving into the next realm of quiff fashion. We're talking about coloring your hair, but not the normal highlights/lowlights business. We're talking color!

We realize this trend is not for everyone, and it is a big commitment. But to those of you who can pull it off, we think you are fabulous.

Also, if you haven't checked out this website before, you must! We refer back to it all the time for ways to amp up our beauty regimen.

We could never (or would never for that matter) try and explain to you the best way to bleach your hair, so click the link to thebeautydepartment.com for a step by step tutorial to get this look! And of course you can use any colors your little heart desires. We're thinking more reds or oranges for Fall?
By the way, if any of you decide to do this, we would LOVE to see the finished result! You can email pics to anniehemlinekc@gmail.com - Can't wait to hear from you!

Poncho Crazy!

We've got a craze going on around our Hemline world - and it's all about ponchos! We love them for so many reasons: 1. They are so easy to wear, no matter your shape and size. 2. They are great for transitioning into Fall. Wear them on chilly mornings over a summer dress, and ditch the poncho as the afternoon warms up. 3. They are so bohemian - and you know how us Hemline ladies feel about bohemian anything.

So effortlessly cool!

Here are a few ponchos we have in store and online right now to get your own poncho craze going!
