It's Spring at Hemline!

You would't know it by the weather here in Kansas City, but Spring is just around the corner! And the racks at Hemline are blooming with beautiful new merchandise. We love this Tracy Reese dress. We would wear it now with some beautiful riding boots, and right in to Spring with some pretty little flat sandals. Enjoy!

Meet the Ladies of Hemline Kansas City!

Since Hemline KC opened in 2004, we haven't had too many employees. Once you work at Hemline, you are part of the family. We thought we'd take some time today to introduce all the ladies you've been seeing in the store all these years!

Meet Bri! Bri has been with Hemline since 2007. She works full time on the sales floor while attending nursing school full time as well! Bri and her husband spend free time with their yellow lab, Talia, and love to cheer on our Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium. Aside from fashion, Bri loves learning about interior decorating. She is an invaluable part of Hemline, and we hope to have her for many years to come!

Meet Jen! One of two Jens here at Hemline, this Jen has been with Hemline since 2007. She is the sales floor manager, and works full time to bring the customer service you deserve to Hemline. Jen spends free time with her two beautiful daughters, and loves anything that has to do with being "green". She is our resident hippie!

Hello Cara! Cara has worked at Hemline since 2007. She works full time, spending part of her time on the sales floor and the other part helping out with shophemline.com and the blog. Cara has a beautiful baby girl, and she and her husband just like spending free time being a family! Cara also attended MUD, a make up and designery in LA where she studied beauty and character make up for film, T.V. and runway. Needless to say, her skills are well used here at Hemline!

Meet Ashley! Ashley is the newest member to the Hemline family. She studied fashion design and product development at Stephens College in Columbia, MO. She also created and designed  a collection of panties to sell at Birdies, a lingerie store in the Crossroads district of KC. She loves to sew, and is an amazing seamstress! We welcome her with open arms and hope you will too!

Ever ordered something from shophemline.com? Shelly is the one who shipped your order to you! Shelley has been with Hemline since 2008, and works for shophemline.com. She is responsible for taking photos of all the beautiful clothes you see on our website, and shipping out orders to customers. She spends her free time with her husband and sweet boxer, Bailey. She loves playing ultimate frisbee, and loves to cook!

Meet Ashley! Ashley has been with Hemline since 2008, and works in our offices covering just about whatever job that needs to be done. She works in photoshop to make our website look beautiful, and sends out emails to our loyal customers! She spends her free time with her beautiful daughter, Ellie Grace, and loves to go to the movies.

Meet Jenn! Jenn has been with Hemline since we opened in 2004. She is the general manager at Hemline, and she has many different roles from managing day to day things to buying at market. Jenn loves spending time with her two beautiful kids and husband, and is busy right now coaching her kids basketball teams. She is also the resident prankster - you always have to watch your back when she's around!

Meet Annie! Annie opened Hemline in 2004, along with Jenn and 2 other family members. Since 2006, it's just been the two of them! Annie wears many hats at Hemline from blogging to buying. She spends her free time with her sweet 1 year old son and husband, and loves listening to and playing music.

We hope you all feel a little closer to our Hemline family after reading this blog, and we look forward to seeing you in the store!

Let's talk Make Up!

We spend a lot of time discussing clothes on this blog. And that is definitely not a bad thing. But today we thought it would be fun to focus on another aspect of the looks we put together, our make up! We picked the mind of make up artist and Hemline stylist Cara Porter to get us started. Cara studied at MUD - make up and designory in Burbank, California, with an emphasis on beauty and character make up for film, t.v. and runway. "Make up can definitely play a part in making or breaking your look, so it's important to know how to work it into your style. Pay attention to trends in make up, just like you would with clothing because make up looks do go in and out of style."

For Spring 2011 make up looks over all are very natural, using soft pinks and peaches with a soft lip and light blush.

You do not need to be a trained make up artist to pull off a beautifully natural look. A good trick I go by, is to use a tinted moisturizer and follow with your foundation or powder if needed. Next, curl your lashes and sweep a pink or coral blush across the apples of your cheeks. Once you brighten your cheeks up a bit, you will be surprised at how little make up you actually need. Apply one coat of mascara and a light peach gloss or matte lip stick and you're all set!

While each season tends to have a natural look trend and a more dramatic look trend, the dramatic look for Spring 2011 is a bright shadow and bright matte lip. While this look is great for the runway, it makes wearing for every day a little difficult. I would recommend choosing one or the other for a night time look. If you decide to go with a bright lid, apply minimal or no blush and a nude lip. If you're going with a bright lip, keep the eyes very simple with maybe a beige shadow and light application of mascara. Balance is key to a beautiful make up look. A good rule of thumb to remember is that makeup is intended to enhance your natural beauty, not mask it.

Using good products does not always mean having to break the bank for the sake of beauty. Brands like Revlon and L'oreal have really re-vamped their product lines and are developing quality make up for drug store prices. Some of my favorite lip sticks are by Revlon, they have a great variety of colors, and they have even started packaging their lip sticks in a Chanel-looking case. Super cute huh?
