DIY Lace Tape

We are taking a break from fashion today to bring you a DIY project that we fell in love  with - and it's so easy! With wedding season getting into full gear, Summer birthday parties galore and Mother's Day right around the corner (are you ready?) we thought this DIY lace tape could be the special little mark you leave on all your gifts this Summer! And Fall and Winter too.

We found the tutorial on freeprettythingsforyou.com It's so easy. Go to any hobby store and grab a roll of double sided tape, the kind with the paper backing on one side. Get some pretty lace that is roughly the same width as your tape. Put the lace right on top of the tape, leaving the paper backing intact until you are ready to use it. Roll it back up and you are ready to go! Make sure you press hard when sticking the lace on. We love that you can wrap things in butcher paper or white tissue and by adding this tape it makes a simple, beautiful and low budget statement.

Caviar Nails!

Caviar Nails?

Yep! You read it right! We have a new obsession among the Hemline ladies for our finger nails - the caviar manicure. It was invented as part of a cover shoot for a UK magazine. The creative director for Ciate, the brand behind this amazing product, needed something "feminine, indulgent yet delicately extravagant" - and so the caviar manicure was born!

The kit is $25.00 and comes with a "base coat" which is a Ciate color, "caviar" pearls, a tray to collect the mess, and a funnel to add the pearls back into the bottle that don't stick on the nail. You can do this manicure in 3 different shades - Rainbow, Black Pearl and Mother of Pearl. Our favorite? Don't make us choose!

Coachella Inspiration

Last weekend kicked off the first of two of the best weekends in the music and arts world - Coachella! We love the vibe the show gives, and we love to see what Coachella goers end up wearing.

We pulled together some of our favorite "Coachella Inspired" jewelry pieces - you know, so you can be a little part of it here at home if you aren't lucky enough to go!

Flowers in your Hair

If you were anything like me when I was a little girl, I spent most of the Spring time on the play ground stringing together Clover flowers to make necklaces, bracelets and crowns. My favorite teacher always ended up with a crown of weeds along with me - and I was so proud!

I guess it's that little girl inside that is so very happy to be able to wear this happy trend again! Make your own by going to a craft store. Purchase your favorite flowers, a hot glue gun, and some thin cording, and start your masterpiece! Maybe you want a crown full of flowers. Maybe you'd rather have a cool braided cord that shows through your dainty flowers. Maybe you would rather have a clip with just a few pretty little blooms on it. Whatever you like, you can't go wrong!

Shorty Shorts!

Easter is over, and Spring has definitely sprung - and our Hemline locations are starting to feel the Summer heat. Aaahhhhh.

We've got the perfect shorts right now to show off your beautiful, soon to be sun kissed legs! Wear your cut offs with a tank top and sandals, and your more dressy shorts with a summer-y wedge. Wear them as a cover up for your bathing suit (which we happen to also have) or wear them to a bar-b-que. We will be wearing them everywhere, because they are just right for the season!

The No-Poo Challenge!

No SHAMPOO that is! 

This challenge was presented to the blogger world close to two years ago, but it's back again this Spring because so many people loved the results! 

We aren't asking you to stop washing your hair, by the way. We're asking you to try washing it with more unconventional, but all natural, chemical free items - items you've probably got in your kitchen right now! 

Shampoo and conditioner are loaded with "extras" - things that don't need to be there for us to get clean tresses. Some of them are even harmful to our hair (and our health) instead of helpful like they promise. So join us on our No-Poo Challenge! We've got 2 weeks to better, ready for Spring hair!

What you'll need:

Baking Soda

Apple Cider Vinegar

Water

2 containers or squirt bottles for mixing your new hair products

Coconut Oil

For the shampoo: Mix 2 tablespoons of baking soda to one cup of water. Wet your hair, and squirt your new poo in! Start at the scalp and really get in there to break down build up and work your way to the ends. Now don't be alarmed when it doesn't lather - it's not supposed to! Your regular shampoo has added ingredients that make it bubble up. But who need bubbles?? Then grab your squirt bottle of apple cider vinegar and water. You'll need equal parts vinegar and water for the rinse. Squirt it on and rinse all of the baking soda mixture out. Keep rinsing until you feel the grittiness of the baking soda is gone. If you feel your hair is too gritty when you're done, try adding less baking soda to the shampoo mixture or more apple cider vinegar to your rinse.

After towel drying your hair, add a small amount of pure coconut oil to your hair for an all natural leave in conditioner. An all natural conditioner that smells amazing by the way! Style your hair as you always do - and relish in your beautiful new locks!

A word of warning though: You might go through a period of a few days to a week when your hair looks dull or feels heavy and/or greasy. It's okay! If you can live with it, we highly recommend sticking it out. It's your new shampoo breaking down the old left over chemicals - it's doing it's job!
The last major perk of going poo-less? You are going to save a TON of money on shampoo and conditioner! Good luck out there - and let us know how you like the results.

Jonesin for Crop Tops!

We are loving crop tops for Spring and Summer! Don't be scared of this trend - you can wear them with a low slung maxi skirt, a pair of your favorite bell bottoms or gaucho pants to show off some of your sun kissed skin, or you can wear them with something high waisted, only letting a itsy bit of your tummy show through! Either way you decide to wear this trend is fine by us - we are hooked!

The Perfect Red Lip

We saw it all over the runway for Fall 2011, it's super hot for Spring 2012, and we saw it yet again on the Fall 2012 runways!

The perfect red lip - it just doesn't go out of style. Achieving it however, can be challenging to say the least. We put together our own little bit of expertise (more like trial and error) and think we've come up with a fool proof way to get the perfect red pout!

Tools:

- toothbrush or disposable mascara wand

-lip balm

- nude lip liner

- red lipstick

- eye shadow blending brush

- translucent loose powder

- lip brush

Instructions:

1) Remove dead skin from your lips using an old toothbrush or a disposable mascara wand and some lip balm. Use a circular motion and gently rub the dead skin away.

2) Outline the perimeter of your lips with a nude liner to prevent feathering.

3) Apply red lipstick directly from the tube.

4) Using an eyeshadow brush and translucent loose powder, gently pat the powder onto your lips to set in the color.

5) Apply a second coat of lipstick with a lip brush to smooth edges and perfect your pout.

We are all about shoes this week! There are so many amazing things coming into our stores right now, and the shoes are just too much! In a good way, of course. Or in a bad I don't have a paycheck left because of all these great shoes kind of way. You decide.

The Feminine Side of TOMS

We've been long time lovers of TOMS Shoes - and honestly, who hasn't? The following the brand has is so amazing, and it's one to be extremely proud of. TOMS stands for something good, and they keep improving their brand so they can keep up the good they do.

This Spring, TOMS has gone in an amazing new direction - introducing ballet flats to the mix! They still have their tried and true style and hippie vibe, but these new flats are just so... pretty! Hemline in Kansas City is a proud carrier - if you're in the area, you really need to see them!

Wide Leg Pants = LOVE

Remember a few years back (think 2004-ish) the gaucho craze?

Okay. Now forget it.

The days of the jersey knit, super unflattering, hit you at the wrong spot on your calfs, showed off all your flaws pants are long gone - Phew!

The new wide leg pants have about a million things that we love about them. They are super comfortable. They are made of great materials like muslin and linen and silk. They are toned down in color, but played up in pattern. They can be worn to the beach during the day or out to dinner at night with a few simple switches. These are only a few off our very long list of loves for these pants! 

We've got them in store now, from our favorite brands like Free People and Plenty by Tracy Reese. We even have them jumpsuit style! Did we mention how much we love these pants?

Happy Jeans

We did a post this past Fall about colored denim. The red wine, deep purple and dark teal were beautiful, colorful additions to our racks this Fall and Winter. Now our stores are flooded with new colors for your denim needs - but for Spring we're sporting colors such as "watermelon", "Cherry", "Berry" and "Lavender". We are in love! Oh and the fit of these babies won't disappoint either. Hudson is a favorite denim brand with the Hemline crew. Each pair is $154 each - a steal for a pair of jeans that makes your butt look THIS good.

Kai in the Spotlight - Again!

You've heard us shout the praises to one of our favorite body products, Kai - and if you know anything about the brand, you will totally understand - but we aren't the only ones!

Kai was featured in the January issue of People Magazine, specifically the body butter. Sarah Michelle Gellar is a fan, among a long list of celebrity followers. She boasts "It's rich and keeps my skin hydrated all day. It smells amazing too."

We couldn't agree more, Ms. Gellar.

Spring 2012 Makeup Trends

Can you believe Spring is getting so close? A short 57 days aways to be exact! The must haves in fashion for Spring are coming in to all the Hemline stores (squeal!), so we thought we'd tell you some of our favorite makeup trends to go along with your new wardrobe.

The runways were filled with beautiful makeup for Spring 2012, from glittery eyes to red lips. These are 3 of our very favorite looks, straight from the runway.

1. Rosebud Lips - Pair these soft lips with a blush in a similar tone to get the full effect, and use a cream lipstick instead of a gloss. Pat it with your fingers or a tissue to give it a creamy, stained look. Beautiful!

2. Doll Lashes - We love the look of baby doll lashes! Pick some up at Sephora, Ulta or any drugstore. Try to stick with the more natural look, but make sure it's long enough to be "doll worthy"! Side note: they take some getting used to, as far as wearing them and putting them on. Practice makes perfect - you'll be a pro in no time!

3. Sporty Cheeks - We are loving the look of a sun-kissed face, as if you spent an entire day on the tennis court or played a game of beach volleyball. The look is so fresh, and so pretty! Make it a little more sporty with more of a bronze toned blush, or go ultra feminine with a peach or rose toned blush. We are smitten!
