Spotlight On: Maxi Skirts

We all know about the maxi dress. It's long, flow-y, ever so comfy, and can be worn for pretty much any occasion. But do you know about the maxi skirt? This new twist on the maxi trend can be a hard one to know what to do with. I mean when you have the entire dress, there is no guessing what to put with it - you're covered. But when faced with these sweet little skirts, there's more room for question.

It's all too simple though, really! Each of the skirts we pulled off of our sales floor can be worn with a simple little tank top. Let the skirt shine! Don't get too fussy on top. You can tuck your top in, tie a knot at the hip, or buy a cropped version and wear it out and loose. What shoes you ask? For Summer we like a simple sandal in a neutral or metallic, or even a muted animal print. Are the skirts too long for you? Try it with a clog or an espadrille. Sseko Spotlight - Take 2!

So I know we've blogged about Sseko Sandals before. We honestly can't get enough of these shoes - so we had to blab about them again!

If you don't know the story of Sseko shoes, you can read our previous post here. In a nut shell, these shoes are made by young women in Uganda. These women work for Sseko designing and making the fabrics and soles to earn money to send them to college -  a rare thing for women in Uganda. It gives them a chance at a better life, and a sense of purpose. It's an amazing thing, really!

Hemline NOLA Fashion Show!

Hemline New Orleans is having a fashion show! Specifically, Hemline on Magazine Street - and it's going to be a great night!

Each of the Hemline locations has a special place in their own cities, and Hemline New Orleans has a reason to celebrate. They have won 1st Place among voters in New Orleans in women's clothing! Now if any of you have been to New Orleans, you know that is no small feat. The city is bustling with boutiques and great shopping alike, but Hemline holds the title for the best - and we are so proud!

In honor of the "Best of the Big Easy", Where Y'at Magazine and Generations Hall / The Metropolitan Nightclub are holding the Best of the Big Easy Party. This party will "be a celebration of the best that New Orleans has to offer in the fields of music, food, entertainment and nightlife. The party will allow Where Y'at Magazine to recognize the winners in each of the different categories from the Best of the Big Easy contest."

This amazing party will be held on Saturday, June 25 at the premier nightclub in New Orleans, The Metropolitan. The fashion show by Hemline will be the entertainment for the night! Oh and of course along with a burlesque show by Fleur de Tease!

West 18th Street Fashion Show

It's that time of year again in Kansas City. The time of year for the West 18th Street Fashion Show - and we couldn't be more excited! The West 18th Street show has been put on every June since 2001, and every year has been better than the last. It's goal is "to showcase emerging talent in the Kansas City fashion scene by providing a new and creative platform". - www.westeighteenthstreet.com

The event is held each year in June. Hundreds of designers apply, but only 18 are chosen to be part of this amazing night. This year the show is titled "Summer In Spain" - we don't know what all that will actually entail, but we do know it will be amazing! It's this Saturday, June 11, and starts at dusk - 8:00 p.m. It's held on 18th Street in the Crossroads Art District, on the block between Baltimore Avenue and Wyandotte Street. It's free to attend, or you can purchase an extra special VIP ticket from Hemline that will get you a front row seat and a swag bag, and entry to the pre-show party at the Arts Incubator, where you can sip cocktails and munch on hors d' oeuvres in a totally cool space!

We hope to see some of you there. We promise, this event never disappoints!

Au Naturel

We love the look right now of everything that is natural. It's a huge trend, and we definitely understand why! We pulled some of our favorite au naturel pieces and put them all together here, in one beautiful little collection.

Summer Music

Memorial Day is over. Do you know what that means? SUMMER TIME!! And we are a little excited!

We've gone over summer clothing trends, and covered the best summer beauty products. Now we want to talk about music! And we can't think of a better album than the new one from Colbie Caillat to blare from the speakers while basking pool side. 

Her new album, All Of You, has a release date set for July 3, 2011. Her first single from the album, "Brighter Than The Sun" was released May 3, and we LOVE it! We should have known, her past albums are some of our favorites still. We're looking forward to July 3!
